ECG assures Ghanaians: No return to dumsor amid localised power outages
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has reassured Ghanaians that the country is not returning to the erratic power supply infamously known as 'dumsor', despite scattered outages in some areas.
ECG Director of Communications William Boateng, speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, explained that the current interruptions are largely due to localised faults and, in some cases, poor workmanship on low-voltage lines.
He emphasised that the ongoing planned maintenance works are intended to address these issues, not signal a broader return to unstable electricity supply.
Mr Boateng revealed that the electricity needs of Accra alone can consume the full generation capacity of the Akosombo Dam.
He said the nation's capital is currently a major hotspot for power demand, with load requirements exceeding 1,000 megawatts.
Kumasi is also experiencing high pressure on the system.
To ease strain, more than 100 transformers supplied by the Ministry of Energy have already been installed, with additional units being procured for overloaded areas, he underlined.
Mr Boateng emphasised ECG and Ministry of Energy continue to implement measures to improve reliability and ensure uninterrupted service across the country.
