Ghana’s Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has held high-level discussions with Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, focusing on advancing financial inclusion and strengthening financial health.

The meeting with Queen Máxima, who serves as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health, explored ways to ensure that financial systems not only provide access but also empower individuals to improve their livelihoods.

According to Dr. Forson, the discussions went beyond traditional financial metrics to address the broader concept of financial health—where individuals are equipped to withstand economic shocks, seize opportunities, and plan their futures with confidence.

He stressed that Ghana’s economic “reset agenda” is anchored on translating macroeconomic stability into tangible benefits for citizens.

“Stability must translate into security for households.

Growth must translate into opportunity for individuals.

And access must translate into dignity for all,” he stated.

The Finance Minister noted that government is committed to building an inclusive financial system that is accessible, practical, and beneficial to all Ghanaians, rather than one that remains distant or difficult to navigate.

He added that the ultimate measure of economic progress should be the well-being of citizens, not just aggregate figures, underscoring the need for policies that promote universal participation and shared prosperity.
