Former Manhyia North Member of Parliament (MP) Collins Owusu Amankwah has appealed for Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman Bernard 'Wontumi' Antwi-Boasiako to be freed following the Court of Appeal's decision to acquit and discharge former MASLOC Chief Executive Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu.

Speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo morning show, he argued that the law should be applied fairly.

"If Sedina has been freed, then free Chairman Wontumi too. What is happening is unfair," he said.

Invoking the principle of equal treatment, he added: "What is good for the goose is good for the gander; that is my appeal. If Sedina has been freed, our regional chairman Wontumi can also be freed."

Mr Owusu Amankwah questioned the disparity in the outcomes of the two cases.

"It's so sickening that with one he didn't engage in illegal mining directly but he transferred mineral rights and so he's been jailed 20 years with hard labour, and the Court of Appeal has freed this woman despite her charges," he said.
