Adwoa Safo saved a seat for Akofena at their father's funeral despite dispute
A seat appeared to have been reserved for Israel Nana Kwadwo Akofena Safo at the funeral of his late father, Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
Akofena Safo has opposed the burial arrangements led by his sister, former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo.
The funeral rites for the Kristo Asafo founder began on Thursday, 30 July, despite Akofena Safo's opposition and a High Court injunction restraining the burial. The first day of the funeral was held at the Apostle Kwadwo Safo Centre at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region, while the second day took place at Black Star Square in Accra.
Ahead of the funeral, Apostle Safo's body was secretly moved to Gomoa Mpota, according to his personal physician, Dr Isaac Ofori Tieku, in an interview with Accra FM. This followed the circulation of a video showing an unbranded Toyota Hilux carrying what appeared to be a cloth-wrapped casket into the funeral grounds.
The rift between the siblings has been marked by tension. Adwoa Safo is currently recovering from gunshot injuries she sustained when she visited Akofena's Kwabenya home during his coronation as the new Kristo Asafo and Safo family leader.
Speaking on Wednesday, when she was asked whether she would personally go to invite her brother to the funeral, Adwoa Safo said she feared for her life and would not venture there.
The exact venue where a seat bearing Akofena Safo's name was seen reserved has not been confirmed. Adwoa Safo was seen seated beside an empty chair with a white paper reading "Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena" placed on the backrest.
The reserved seat may suggest an attempt at reconciliation, though Adwoa Safo has not explained the gesture publicly. Akofena Safo had not been seen at the funeral as of the time of publication.
