The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has intensified efforts to strengthen international collaboration on culture, education and innovation following a high-level meeting between its Chief Executive Officer, Maame Efua Houadjeto, and UNESCO officials in Accra.

The strategic working visit took place at the UNESCO Accra Office, where Houadjeto held discussions with Edmond Moukala, Head of Office and UNESCO Representative to Ghana.

Talks centred on deepening institutional cooperation to promote Ghana’s culture and education sectors while exploring the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in advancing tourism development and enhancing the country’s global competitiveness.

Both sides underscored the importance of aligning cultural preservation with innovation, noting that closer collaboration could strengthen Ghana’s heritage promotion, skills development and knowledge exchange initiatives.

The engagement forms part of broader efforts to position tourism as a driver of economic growth and international visibility.

As one of Ghana’s key economic contributors, tourism stands to benefit significantly from AI-powered solutions. Industry experts note that AI can support smart destination management, personalised travel recommendations, digital visitor services, and predictive data analytics to better understand tourist behaviour and trends.

Tools such as virtual tours, automated customer support systems, and real-time language translation can also enhance visitor experiences, while data-driven marketing can help Ghana target global audiences more effectively.

Leveraging these technologies could improve efficiency, increase arrivals, and boost revenue across the hospitality and creative sectors.

The meeting signals a renewed push to integrate technology, culture and education in shaping a modern, competitive tourism industry for Ghana.
