GWL apologises for supply disruption after nationwide power outage
Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has apologised to consumers affected by temporary water shortages in parts of the country following Wednesday's nationwide power outage.
The utility company attributed the disruption to the electricity interruption that affected the National Interconnected Transmission System (NITS), leaving several of its treatment facilities and pumping stations without a reliable power supply.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 29, GWL said the unstable electricity situation had temporarily reduced its capacity to treat and distribute water to a number of communities.
The company assured customers that engineers are prepared to restore full operations immediately after a stable power supply is re-established.
GWL said it is coordinating with key institutions in the power sector to ensure normal water production and distribution resume as soon as possible, adding that it will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves.
The company also appealed to affected consumers to remain patient while efforts are underway to restore both electricity and water services.
The water supply interruptions follow a nationwide blackout in the early hours of Wednesday after a disturbance on the National Interconnected Transmission System at about 3:11 a.m.
The incident triggered the shutdown of several power generation plants, leading to widespread electricity outages and disrupting essential services, including water production and distribution across parts of the country.
