Ghana Immigration Service rescues 305 foreign nationals in anti-trafficking operation
The Ghana Immigration Service has conducted the second phase of an intelligence-led operation targeting exploitative street begging networks in the Greater Accra Region.
The exercise, carried out in the early hours of Wednesday, April 15, 2026, focused on rescuing victims and disrupting organised activities involving the exploitation of foreign nationals, particularly women and children.
According to the service, the operation covered areas including Abossey Okai, Nima, Madina, Kaneshie and Zongo Junction.
A total of 305 West African nationals were encountered, comprising 113 children, 66 adult women, and 126 adult men. Among the children, 36 were male and 77 female.
All individuals are undergoing profiling and immigration processes at a designated centre in line with established procedures. The Service said it is working with relevant stakeholders to ensure that victims, especially children, receive the necessary care and protection.
The operation follows an earlier exercise and forms part of efforts to dismantle networks that exploit foreign nationals through organised street begging.
The Ghana Immigration Service urged the public to report suspected cases of human trafficking and related activities to the nearest immigration office.
