Ghana, Netherlands deepen agricultural ties with new seed sector agreement

John Dumelo signing the MoU in Netherlands

Ghana and the Netherlands have strengthened their bilateral cooperation in agriculture following the signing of an addendum to an earlier Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) under the Food and Agriculture Working Group.

The agreement, signed in The Hague, builds on the initial MoU concluded on May 28, 2025, and focuses specifically on the development of Ghana’s vegetable seed sector.

The addendum was signed alongside Silvo Erkens, the Netherlands’ Minister of Food Security, Fisheries and Horticulture.

The Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, said the partnership aims to enhance sustainable agriculture and strengthen food security in Ghana by improving access to high-quality seeds, supporting research and innovation, and fostering stronger collaboration between stakeholders in both countries.

The agreement is also expected to contribute to the development of resilient seed systems, a critical component in boosting agricultural productivity.

As part of the ongoing three-day working visit, the Ghanaian delegation is scheduled to tour research institutions, fertilizer companies, and major seed producers across the Netherlands to explore further opportunities for collaboration.

He added that the engagement reflects growing efforts to leverage international partnerships to transform Ghana’s agricultural sector.
