The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service is expressing concern over what it says is a growing number of child sexual abuse cases across the country.

The warning was issued during a media briefing where the department provided updates on ongoing investigations and recent operations.

Speaking at the briefing, Director-General of the CID, Lydia Yaako Donkor, described child sexual abuse as a grave offence and called on the public to support efforts aimed at protecting children from exploitation and harm.

She announced that the Police Service will soon begin a nationwide public education campaign to increase awareness about child sexual abuse and encourage reporting of such crimes.

According to COP Donkor, police authorities are worried about the rising trend because these offences are often difficult to uncover and are sometimes driven by financial motives.

She assured the public that the Ghana Police Service is working closely with international partners and other relevant institutions to combat the crime and bring offenders to justice.

The CID boss further noted that child sexual abuse has devastating effects on victims, including emotional trauma, loss of confidence and long-term damage to their future development.
