Ghana unites for World Cup: '16 by 16' initiative brings football frenzy to every region
The Ghana Tourism Authority has launched the "16 by 16" project, a bold initiative to bring the FIFA World Cup closer to every Ghanaian, regardless of location or economic status.
The project involves setting up free, high-quality public viewing centres in all 16 regions of Ghana, where citizens can come together to watch, celebrate, and connect during the World Cup period.
Speaking at the launch, Mrs. Maame Efua Houadjeto, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), emphasised that the initiative is not just about football, but about tourism, community, engagement, identity, and economic stimulation.
"We are turning every region into a hub of activity where sports meets culture, where local businesses thrive, and where Ghana tells her story to herself and to the world," she said.
The initiative is a collaboration with Tribe Cultural Fest and the embassies of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Ghana, and is expected to stimulate local economies and promote cultural exchange.
The CEO encouraged every Ghanaian to take ownership of the initiative, support local vendors, and celebrate responsibly.
"Let's show the world that Ghana does not only participate in global events, we activate them, localize them, and maximize them for national development," she said.
