Gov't outlines vision to position Ghana as West Africa’s leading maritime hub at Africa Ports Forum 2026
Government through the Ministry of Transport has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Ghana into West Africa’s leading maritime and logistics hub at the 7th Edition of the Africa Ports Forum 2026.
The forum brought together industry players, policymakers, transport experts and stakeholders from across the continent to discuss strategies aimed at improving port efficiency, trade facilitation and regional connectivity.
During the event, the Deputy Minister for Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey highlighted the Ministry's broader vision for the maritime sector, with a strong focus on modernization, digitalization and strategic transport investments designed to strengthen Ghana’s competitiveness within the sub-region.
She noted that ongoing investments in port infrastructure, logistics systems and transport networks are expected to improve operational efficiency, reduce turnaround times and enhance Ghana’s role as a gateway for trade in West Africa.
The discussions at the event underscored the importance of technology-driven solutions in advancing port operations and boosting economic growth through seamless cargo movement and integrated logistics services.
Participants at the forum stressed the need for stronger collaboration between governments, private sector actors and international partners to accelerate the development of resilient and sustainable maritime systems across Africa.
