Gov't receives over 200 buses from Egypt to ease transport challenges
The Government of Ghana has taken delivery of more than 200 buses from Egypt as part of efforts to address the country’s ongoing public transport challenges.
The arrival of the buses is expected to significantly improve urban mobility, particularly in major cities such as Accra and Kumasi, where commuters have long grappled with congestion and limited transport options.
Officials say the intervention forms part of a broader strategy to modernise the transport sector, reduce reliance on informal transit systems such as trotros, and provide safer and more reliable public transportation.
The Minister for Transport has been commended for his efforts in facilitating the acquisition, which is seen as a major step toward easing the daily commuting burden for thousands of Ghanaians.
The development also complements ongoing road infrastructure upgrades across the country, with authorities expressing optimism that the combined interventions will enhance efficiency in the transport system and improve overall commuter experience.
The government is expected to outline distribution and operational plans for the buses in the coming weeks.
