The Ministry of Finance has pledged to pursue accountability for persons implicated in the misappropriation of state funds, following the publication of the Auditor-General’s report on arrears and outstanding obligations as of the close of 2024.

According to the Ministry, the findings have been forwarded to the Attorney-General for the necessary legal processes to be initiated against those cited.

Delivering a statement in Parliament on Tuesday, March 10, on behalf of the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, stated that officials who exploited their positions, conspired with contractors, manipulated documentation, or sought to siphon public resources through improper means would face the full rigours of the law.

He further indicated that the Ministry will not endorse questionable procedures or approve dubious payment claims, underscoring a renewed resolve to enforce stricter financial oversight across government institutions.

Mr. Nyarko Ampem reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and the misuse of public funds.

“Speaker, the Minister for Finance has formally referred the report of the Auditor-General to the Attorney-General to bring to account those responsible for this rape of the public purse. Those who abused their offices, colluded with contractors, falsified records, or attempted to loot the public purse through the back door will be held to account,  the Ministry of Finance, will no longer serve as a rubber stamp for weak controls and falsified claims,The Mahama administration refuses to accept this rotten system. We refuse to normalise waste, and we refuse to ask the Ghanaian people to pay for fraud,” he said.
