Greater Accra Minister orders MMDCEs to intensify flood, sanitation operations
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has tasked Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the region to intensify on-the-ground supervision of sanitation, public safety, and flood prevention measures.
The directive follows recent flooding incidents in parts of the region, which have been linked to poor waste disposal practices and blocked drainage systems.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday, May 28, the Minister said the current environmental and safety challenges demand active leadership and regular field monitoring rather than desk-based administration.
She stressed that local authorities must increase their presence in communities to enforce sanitation regulations and reduce the risk of flooding, especially in vulnerable areas.
Madam Ocloo also praised the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), security agencies, sanitation workers, and community volunteers for their continued role in emergency response and public safety efforts.
She noted that addressing the region’s environmental challenges requires shared responsibility and sustained collaboration among all stakeholders to improve discipline and protect lives and property.
