The National Disaster Management Organisation has activated emergency operation centres across the country following heavy rainfall that has caused flooding in parts of Accra, leaving several homes inundated and properties damaged.

The intervention forms part of efforts to improve coordination of rescue and relief operations as the rainy season intensifies, with emergency response teams placed on alert in communities vulnerable to flooding.

Speaking to Class News, Senior Officer at NADMO’s Inspectorate Department, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, said the organisation’s decentralised structure allows rapid deployment of personnel whenever distress reports are received.

According to him, emergency teams remain on standby and are ready to move into affected areas to support residents during flooding incidents.

He explained that response teams are equipped to assist with evacuations and remove water from flooded homes where necessary.

Mr. Abubakar also disclosed that NADMO is preparing to introduce a mobile application aimed at improving flood reporting and emergency response coordination.

The app, he said, will allow residents to submit exact locations of flooding incidents using local languages, including Twi and Ewe, to support faster and more effective disaster management operations.
