A/R: Firefighters contain blaze near Kumasi Kejetia market
Firefighters in the Ashanti Region have successfully contained a fire outbreak at the No Weapon Building near the Kejetia Market in Kumasi.
The fire reportedly broke out at about 2:55 p.m. after smoke was seen billowing from a stall filled with bales of second-hand clothing.
Traders in the area initially attempted to put out the flames before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service arrived at the scene.
Firefighters from the Kejetia Market Fire Station responded swiftly to distress calls and were later joined by officers from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital fire station to help bring the situation under control.
The fire destroyed about five heavily packed bales of second-hand clothing, although firefighters managed to save the remaining goods from being consumed by the blaze.
According to reports, the affected stall was not connected to electricity, raising uncertainty about the cause of the fire.
Some traders suspect that a discarded cigarette may have triggered the outbreak.
However, the Kejetia Market Fire Commander, Ebenezer Opoku, stated that the exact cause of the fire remains unknown and investigations are ongoing.
