President Mahama calls for structured government partnership with traditional leaders
President John Mahama has called for a structured partnership between the government and traditional authorities, emphasizing that chiefs are essential to Ghana's development.
Speaking at the Jubilee House on Friday, May 15, during a visit from the Northern Regional House of Chiefs, the president stated that traditional leaders should be actively involved in governance and development rather than just ceremonial consultations.
He praised the chiefs for their forward-thinking approach, noting that they offered a hand of partnership rather than just making requests.
President Mahama highlighted that traditional authorities are vital because of their community proximity, cultural legitimacy, and established conflict resolution systems.
He argued that African governments have historically underutilized traditional leadership and asserted that no development agenda can succeed without their cooperation.
