Heritage Christian University has introduced a Bachelor of Laws programme through its newly established Heritage School of Law, creating a new pathway into legal education for prospective law students in Ghana.

The university says the programme is designed to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills for careers in litigation and other areas of legal practice, including opportunities to work in international organisations and other jurisdictions.

A major focus of the programme will be clinical legal education, with students expected to gain hands-on experience providing basic legal services to underserved and marginalised communities.

The university says the initiative is intended to contribute to efforts to bridge Ghana’s access-to-justice gap while developing lawyers who combine professional competence with compassion, entrepreneurship and integrity.

The programme will also offer a wide range of elective courses tailored to students’ professional interests, including courses relating to tourism and hospitality, sports, entertainment, maritime, health and education.

Heritage Christian University says applicants with WASSCE or SSSCE qualifications must have at least six credits, including English Language, Core Mathematics and either Integrated Science or Social Studies, in addition to three elective subjects.

Applicants who already hold a first degree from a GTEC-accredited university may be admitted to Level 200, while holders of foreign or international qualifications will be required to have their certificates evaluated by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission.

Mature applicants aged 25 years or above, with relevant professional experience, will also be eligible to apply, subject to an entrance examination, aptitude test and interview.

The Heritage School of Law is located on the university’s campus behind the Olympic Stadium at Amasaman in Accra.
