‘I will marry you when you grow up; You are my wife’ - MP slammed for flirting with underaged girl
Comments by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ahafo Ano South East, Yakubu Mohammed, to a schoolgirl during a visit by pupils to Parliament have sparked mixed reactions on social media.
The Ashanti Regional MP was addressing the pupils and encouraging them to aspire to leadership when he interrupted his remarks to speak to one of the girls.
"I'm an MP in the Ashanti region. I just want to encourage you all. I used to come here when I was schooling. I'd see the MPs, I'd be happy for them. I had a dream, and today standing here as an MP, it's one of the dreams we've worked for," he said.
He then asked the girl for her name before adding: "You're very beautiful. When you grow up, I will marry you."
As some of the pupils laughed and murmured, he continued: "She's my wife."
He then returned to his address, saying: "In future, she'll also be an MP."
"And all of you as well, will be somebody in future."
The remarks have since generated mixed reactions on social media, with some users describing them as inappropriate while others viewed them as a light-hearted comment.
Commenting on the incident, Solomon Peana-The Naturopath said: "It is inappropriate. However, he doesn't have any negative intentions — he's just being playful. He must be cautioned and trained properly in communication."
Another social media user, Naadja Sackey, simply described the remarks as "Gross."
