The Member of Parliament for Odododiodio, Alfred Nii Kotey Ashie, has expressed sorrow over the fatal road crash that occurred at Bukom on Tuesday night, extending his condolences to the bereaved family and wishing a speedy recovery to those injured.

In a press statement, the MP described the incident, which occurred along Asafoatse Nettey Street, stretching through Menso to Bazooka Junction at Bukom as a tragedy that has left the constituency in sadness.

Preliminary reports, according to the statement, indicate that the crash was caused by a mechanical failure, allegedly due to brake failure, resulting in a vehicle ploughing through the stretch, killing one person and leaving several others with severe injuries.

“The courage and selflessness of our community shone brightly. I want to express my immense gratitude and profound appreciation to the brave youth of Bukom and surrounding areas. Your rapid intervention, dedication and tireless efforts in rescuing victims and conveying them to medical facilities undoubtedly saved lives,” Mr. Ashie said.

The legislator extended his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and gave those receiving treatment at the Usher and Korle-Bu Teaching hospitals his prayers for their full recovery.

While awaiting the outcome of investigations into the exact cause of the crash, Mr. Ashie urged motorists and all road users to prioritise regular vehicle maintenance, particularly ensuring that brakes, tyres and other critical safety systems are in good condition before using the roads.

He also called on drivers to strictly observe speed limits, especially on busy residential and commercial roads such as those in Bukom, to help prevent similar tragedies.

Mr. Ashie said he was closely monitoring the condition of the injured and coordinating with health authorities to ensure they receive the best possible care.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased and called for collective efforts to promote road safety and protect lives.
