IFEST backs post-results school selection for BECE candidates
The Institute for Education Studies has praised the Ministry of Education for introducing a new approach that will allow Basic Education Certificate Examination candidates to choose their preferred Senior High Schools only after their results are released, describing it as a forward-looking step to address persistent issues with the placement system.
Haruna Iddrisu explained that the policy is part of broader reforms aimed at improving the Computerised School Selection and Placement System and enabling students to make more informed decisions. Under the revised system, candidates will be given a one-week period after the release of results to select their schools.
Speaking to Class News, IFEST Executive Director Peter Anti Partey said the change has the potential to ease challenges associated with the placement process in the short to medium term.
He nonetheless advised the Ministry to rigorously test the system under different scenarios to ensure its reliability before it is fully rolled out.
