JICA commits GH¢35 million to rice seed production project in Northern Ghana
The Japan International Cooperation Agency has committed 35 million Ghana cedis toward the establishment of a rice seed production facility in Northern Ghana as part of efforts to strengthen food security and boost agricultural productivity.
The project will be equipped with modern technology and machinery aimed at improving the timely production of quality rice seedlings for farmers across the country.
Authorities say the initiative is expected to support Ghana’s rice sector by increasing access to improved seed varieties, building the capacity of irrigation officers and providing training for farmers on the use of modern agricultural equipment.
The programme also aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s “Feed Ghana Programme,” which seeks to improve food availability and ensure stable food supply throughout the year.
Government has meanwhile assured the public that the funds will be properly managed to achieve the objectives of the Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda.
Officials say the investment will help strengthen Ghana’s agricultural sector through improved infrastructure, skills development and strategic support for local food production.
