Galamsey Ends Here – The Pen is Mightier Than the Changfan

A coalition of journalists, operating under the banner of Patriotic Journalists Against Galamsey (PAJAG), is set to officially launch a nationwide campaign aimed at combating illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

The launch event is scheduled for March 17, 2026, at the Mikaddo Conference Centre in Accra.

The initiative will be held under the theme “Galamsey Ends Here – The Pen is Mightier Than the Changfan,” highlighting the role of responsible journalism and public advocacy in addressing the environmental destruction caused by illegal mining.

According to the organisers, the programme is expected to bring together journalists, environmental activists and other stakeholders committed to protecting Ghana’s rivers, forests and natural resources.

As part of the event, the organisation will unveil its national structure and regional network, present its action plan for combating illegal mining, and receive solidarity messages from key stakeholders.

The programme will also feature a keynote address, followed by a networking reception.

The Executive Director of PAJAG, Nana Otu Darko, has called on stakeholders and members of the public to support the initiative.

He noted that collective action would be essential in tackling the growing threat of illegal mining and safeguarding the country’s environment for future generations.

Illegal mining continues to pose serious environmental challenges in Ghana, particularly through the pollution of rivers and the destruction of forest reserves.

Organisers believe the launch of PAJAG will contribute to strengthening advocacy efforts aimed at ending the practice.
