President John Dramani Mahama has welcomed plans for a visa waiver agreement between Ghana and South Korea aimed at easing travel for diplomatic and official passport holders.

Speaking during bilateral talks with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol in Seoul, President Mahama said the proposed arrangement would help strengthen relations between the two countries by facilitating easier movement for government officials.

The visa waiver agreement, once concluded, is expected to simplify travel procedures for holders of diplomatic and official passports, supporting closer diplomatic engagement and cooperation between Accra and Seoul.

President Mahama noted that the move forms part of broader efforts by both countries to deepen bilateral relations built on shared democratic values and cooperation across several sectors.

“Our relationship is not defined by the distance between our two countries, but by the similarity of the values we share,” he said, highlighting the long-standing partnership between Ghana and Korea.

The president expressed optimism that the easing of travel restrictions would further enhance collaboration in areas such as trade, investment, agriculture, and development cooperation.

He also indicated Ghana’s readiness to once again access support from Korea’s Economic Development Cooperation Fund to support development initiatives.

President Mahama concluded by reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to strengthening ties with Korea and supporting reforms at the United Nations to improve global governance and representation.
