Kumasi Mayor proposes first Friday of every month as National Sanitation Day
The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, has proposed that the government officially designate the first Friday of every month as National Sanitation Day to improve public and institutional participation in clean-up exercises.
The Mayor made the proposal on Friday during an interview with the media after inspecting clean-up activities across the Kumasi Metropolis.
According to Mr Boadi, moving the national clean-up exercise from the first Saturday of every month to the first Friday would significantly increase participation.
He said the turnout for Friday's exercise was much higher than previous Saturday exercises, attributing the increased participation to the involvement of both public and private sector institutions during the working week.
Mr Boadi expressed satisfaction with the level of public response on the opening day of the two-day nationwide clean-up campaign, describing it as a positive step towards improving environmental sanitation.
He said formally setting aside the first Friday of every month as National Sanitation Day would help institutionalise a culture of cleanliness and encourage citizens and organisations to consistently contribute to maintaining a clean environment.
