Kwadaso MCE warns youth against use of ‘Red’ and other illicit drugs

The Municipal Chief Executive for Kwadaso Municipality, Eric Assibey

The Municipal Chief Executive for Kwadaso Municipality, Eric Assibey, has cautioned young people, particularly students, against the use of illicit drugs, including the tramadol variant commonly known as “red,” warning that such substances can jeopardize their future.

Ghana continues to intensify efforts to combat the circulation and use of illegal drugs through stricter enforcement of national drug laws. While progress has been made, Mr Assibey noted that the challenge has not been completely eliminated.

Speaking in a sideline interview with Elisha Adarkwah of Kumasi FM during the Ghana Independence Daycelebration in the municipality, the MCE urged the youth not to succumb to peer pressure or be influenced into experimenting with hard drugs.

He stressed that drug abuse has the potential to derail the ambitions and opportunities of young people and encouraged them to listen to the guidance of their parents and guardians to help them realise their full potential.

Mr Assibey also used the opportunity to highlight several development projects undertaken by the government through the Municipal Assembly. According to him, investments in infrastructure—particularly the construction of classroom blocks and dormitory facilities — are intended to improve education and enhance the quality of life for residents in the municipality.
