The Municipal Chief Executive for the Kwahu West Municipality, Tamimu Halidu, has distributed 10,000 Nkoko Nketenkete chicks to 200 households as part of efforts to improve livelihoods and boost poultry production in the area.

The initiative, launched at a brief ceremony in the municipality, forms part of a government programme aimed at creating sustainable income opportunities for families while strengthening food security.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Halidu explained that the programme is designed to empower households to venture into small-scale poultry farming as an additional source of income.

According to him, each selected household received a consignment of the Nkoko Nketenkete, a resilient local breed known for its adaptability to the environment and its rapid reproduction rate.

He urged beneficiaries to take proper care of the birds to ensure the success of the programme and help expand poultry production across the municipality.

The MCE added that beyond improving household incomes, the initiative would also contribute to increasing the supply of poultry products in local markets.

Officials from the municipal agriculture directorate, including the Agric Director and the Veterinary Officer, noted that measures had been put in place to manage mortality rates among the birds.

They appealed to beneficiaries to provide proper care and feed for the chicks to ensure healthy growth and maximise the benefits of the programme
