E/R: Three arrested at Odumase-Krobo over 105 bundles of suspected fake US dollars; Police reject GHS200,000 bribe
Police in Odumase-Krobo have arrested three suspects after uncovering 105 bundles of suspected counterfeit United States dollar notes hidden in a metal trunk during a raid at Laasi in the Eastern Region.
The suspects have been identified as Ebenezer Natsu (20), George Attor (48), and Bishop Robert Olertey (54).
According to the Ghana Police Service, officers discovered the bundles of suspected fake dollar notes concealed inside a metal trunk during the operation.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects allegedly planned to exchange the counterfeit dollars for Ghana cedis during a market day, raising concerns about a possible attempt to circulate the fake currency within the local economy.
Police further revealed that one of the suspects, Bishop Robert Olertey, allegedly attempted to bribe the arresting officers with GHS200,000 in an effort to evade arrest.
The officers reportedly rejected the offer and proceeded with the arrest.
The three suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations, as authorities work to determine the source of the suspected counterfeit currency and whether other individuals may be involved in the operation.
