The Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has long held plans to establish a new college of education at Ezinlibo in the Jomoro Constituency of the Western Region, as part of efforts to expand teacher training capacity.

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, affirms the MP's decision for the establishment of the college during the inauguration of the governing council of the John Bosco College of Education on March 31, 2026.

According to the Minister, the initiative is aimed at increasing the supply of trained teachers and improving academic performance, particularly in underserved areas.

“We need a teacher training institution in that area to serve that particular enclave,” he stated.

He added that consultations are already underway with key stakeholders, including the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, to facilitate the project.

The establishment of the college follows years of advocacy by key stakeholders, including former Chief of Defence Staff Peter Augustine Blay and the Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey.

Efforts to secure the institution date back to the administration of late President John Evans Atta Mills and continued under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, but did not materialise at the time.

Mr. Iddrisu indicated that construction is expected to begin in 2027, subject to the availability of funding.

The proposed college is expected to serve communities within the Jomoro enclave and surrounding areas, helping to bridge gaps in teacher education and strengthen the country’s education system.

The project is also anticipated to contribute to local development by creating opportunities for education, employment, and economic activity in the area.

Authorities say the initiative reflects ongoing efforts to improve access to quality education and build human capital across the country.
