Mahama’s road projects bring hope to Ketu North as contractors accelerate work
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ketu North, Martin Amenaki, has expressed optimism about the rapid progress of ongoing road construction projects in the municipality, describing them as transformative for the area.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, he credited John Dramani Mahama for initiating the reconstruction of key road networks, including the stretch from Asekuma through Aflao to Ho, which he described as a long-awaited dream for residents.
According to the MCE, contractors are currently on site and working diligently to meet project deadlines.
He noted that significant innovations are being introduced, including plans to construct a dual carriageway within the Jujia Township, while other sections will remain single carriage roads.
He further revealed that affected property owners along the roadside have been duly compensated, with demolition exercises scheduled to begin immediately to pave way for construction.
Mr Amenaki indicated that portions of the road project have already seen substantial progress, with some sections nearing 80 percent completion in terms of joint works.
He added that initial formation works have also commenced in other parts, expressing confidence that asphalt works could be completed within the next six months if the current pace is maintained.
He commended the contractor for exceeding expectations, noting that although a two-year completion timeline was initially given, there are indications the work could be completed in less than one and a half years.
He urged other contractors working across the Volta Region to emulate the same level of efficiency to accelerate development across the region.
The MCE also appealed to residents to cooperate with contractors despite the inconveniences associated with construction activities.
He stressed that the temporary disruptions would ultimately lead to improved road networks, reducing travel time significantly.
He explained that journeys that currently take up to two and a half hours could be shortened to about 45 minutes or less once the project is completed.
On employment, Mr Amenaki disclosed that President Mahama has encouraged contractors to recruit local labour to create job opportunities for residents.
He reiterated his call for contractors to engage local youth, including artisans and young professionals, to ensure that the economic benefits of the projects are felt within the community.
Beyond road infrastructure, the MCE highlighted several completed and ongoing development projects in the municipality.
He emphasised that with continued support from stakeholders, Ketu North is on course to significantly reduce infrastructure deficits in the health and education sectors within the coming years.
