President John Dramani Mahama has stepped in to resolve a dispute between the Tema Development Company (TDC) and the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) over an ongoing development project at Community One Site Three in Tema.

The President has directed key officials of both institutions to meet on Monday, August 17, 2026, to address the disagreement and determine the way forward.

The meeting, scheduled for 11:00 a.m., will bring together TDC Managing Director Courage Nunekpeku, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive Ebi Bright, the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources.

The intervention follows a directive from the TMA for TDC to halt work on the infilling and development project at the site.

The Assembly maintains that the project is being undertaken without the required development permit.

It has also cited concerns raised by residents over activities at the project area.

Among the complaints are the alleged removal of about 50 trees, demolition of existing structures, encroachment on playgrounds and green spaces, and the blocking of access routes.

The TMA’s concerns have triggered a disagreement with TDC over the legality and implementation of the project.

The directive for the presidential meeting was issued on Friday, August 14, on the President’s instructions.

The engagement is expected to give both TDC and the TMA an opportunity to present their respective positions and address the concerns raised by residents and the Assembly.

The meeting will also seek to establish whether and under what conditions the development can continue, while ensuring that public spaces and community interests within the Community One Site Three area are protected.

The outcome of the meeting is expected to determine the immediate future of the disputed project.
