John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to embrace discipline, integrity and a renewed sense of national purpose as the country commemorates its 69th Independence Anniversary.

Speaking at the national celebration held at Jubilee House, the President said the occasion was not only a time to reflect on the sacrifices made by the nation’s founders but also an opportunity for citizens to recommit themselves to building prosperity and inspiring hope for future generations.

According to him, the theme for the anniversary represents a national covenant between the government and the people, stressing that every policy and decision must ultimately work toward improving the lives of Ghanaians.

President Mahama urged citizens to support national development efforts by upholding the values of discipline, accountability and patriotism in their daily lives.

He also disclosed that the government is in the final stages of establishing a Women’s Development Bank, an initiative being championed by the Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

The proposed bank, he explained, will provide financing and mentorship for women-led businesses across the country, with the aim of strengthening women’s economic empowerment and supporting inclusive national development.

Ghana marks its Independence Day each year on March 6 to commemorate its liberation from colonial rule and to celebrate the country’s journey of nationhood and progress.
