Majority Caucus denies sidelining Minority members

News
Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor

The Majority Caucus in the Parliament of Ghana has rejected allegations by Alexander Afenyo-Markin that there is a calculated effort to suppress the voices of Minority members in the House. The Minority Leader had earlier claimed that his caucus was being sidelined, citing stalled motions and what he described as exclusion from key parliamentary processes.

Responding to the claims,Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor dismissed the assertions, insisting that the Majority cannot be held responsible for the Minority’s challenges on the floor of Parliament.

According to him, the concerns raised by Afenyo-Markin stem not from any orchestrated attempt to silence the caucus but rather from what he characterised as the Minority Leader’s own failure to effectively discharge his responsibilities.

Dafeamekpor maintained that parliamentary procedures are clear and accessible to all members, adding that any motion or business brought before the House must comply with established rules.

He stressed that the Majority remains committed to upholding due process and ensuring that parliamentary business is conducted in accordance with the Standing Orders.
