Melcom Care Foundation donates 1,000 meals to five orphanages and Accra Rehabilitation Centre
The Melcom Care Foundation has concluded a week-long philanthropic outreach with a donation of 1,000 meals to selected children's homes and the Accra Rehabilitation Centre in Accra.
The exercise, which ended on Friday at the Accra Rehabilitation Centre, forms part of the group's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Speaking on behalf of the Group Executive Director of Melcom Group, Madam Sonya Sadhwani, the company’s Public Relations Officer, Joseph Kpormegbey said the foundation was established by the late Chairman of the group who believed strongly in giving back to society.
"This week, we decided to visit selected orphanages and this Accra Rehabilitation Centre so that we give back to the society as part of our corporate social responsibility. We are distributing 200 meals per day and we are glad that we've been able to support these centres so that they will also be able to take care of the inmates that they have at their centres," Mr. Kpormegbey said.
He noted that running a children's home and rehabilitation centre is not easy and expressed the hope that the gesture will go a long way to support the upkeep of the inmates.
The donation tour began on Monday at the Osu Children's Home, continued to Teshie Children's Home and to Blissful Children's Home.
The group later went to Nyamedua Children's Home and climaxed it at the Accra Rehabilitation Centre donating 200 packs of food to each facility, totaling 1,000 meals.
Responding to a call from one of the teachers at the centre for additional support in the form of teaching and building materials, Mr. Kpormegbey assured that Melcom will continue its support.
"Melcom is always giving out. Melcom is always doing its corporate social responsibility. So once we have fed them, they have taken it in good faith and we should go on to come back and then give them the necessary assistance that they need," he stated.
The centre Manager of the Accra Rehabilitation Centre, Seth K. Dzidzornu expressed profound gratitude to Melcom Care Foundation for the kind gesture and appealed for more support to enhance teaching and learning as well as infrastructure at the centre.
The Melcom Care Foundation has over the years been at the forefront of supporting vulnerable groups, health and educational institutions across the country.
