The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed that it is investigating an alleged assault on a journalist reported on Monday, 26 January 2026, near the outskirts of Walewale in the North East Region.

The area has recently witnessed several incidents of attacks on public transport, resulting in deaths and injuries.

In a statement to the public, GAF explained that the recent security challenges in the North East and Upper East Regions have led to “heightened levels of insecurity,” emphasising that this situation had and “will occasionally necessitate the conduct of military operations without notice”.

The armed forces urged the public to cooperate with both the military and other security agencies during such operations, emphasising that these measures are essential to restoring law and order in the affected regions.

While the investigation into the alleged assault on the journalist is ongoing, the GAF reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of civilians and maintaining peace and security throughout the country.
