NIA Workers Begin Indefinite Strike Over Conditions of Service
Staff of the National Identification Authority under the Public Services Workers’ Union of the Trades Union Congress say they will go ahead with their planned nationwide indefinite strike effective Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
The workers are demanding the immediate approval and implementation of migration reports connected to their conditions of service.
In a statement jointly signed by union leaders Godsway Ayivor and Bismark Francis Bangfudem Nyuzaghl, members across the country were directed to stay away from work beginning midnight Tuesday until further notice.
The union has also instructed regional executives to monitor compliance with the industrial action at all NIA offices nationwide.
According to the statement, workers facing challenges during the strike period are expected to report directly to divisional leaders for assistance.
The industrial action is likely to affect services at NIA offices across the country, including Ghana Card registration, card replacement and other identification-related services.
Meanwhile, management of the National Identification Authority has appealed to the workers to suspend the strike and allow government an additional two weeks to complete processes relating to the approval and implementation of the migration reports.
