NPA intensifies “Stay Back, Stay Safe” campaign in Eastern Region
The initiative, dubbed the “Stay Back, Stay Safe” Campaign, is aimed at discouraging the hazardous practice of siphoning fuel from overturned tanker accidents—an activity authorities say continues to endanger lives, damage property, and harm the environment.
As part of the intensified campaign, a delegation led by Eunice Budu-Nyarko, Director of Consumer Services at the NPA, embarked on a regional tour to engage stakeholders and educate the public. The outreach programme featured media engagements, community interactions, and targeted sensitisation activities designed to raise awareness about petroleum safety and responsible behaviour during tanker incidents.
A key component of the campaign is the promotion of the 10-litre standard measuring can, which the Authority highlights as an important tool for ensuring transparency and protecting consumers from fuel quantity discrepancies. The NPA says the campaign forms part of broader efforts to enhance safety standards across the downstream petroleum sector while empowering citizens with knowledge to make informed decisions.Officials emphasised that sustained public education and community cooperation are essential to reducing preventable accidents and ensuring safer handling of petroleum products nationwide.
