The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has unveiled the official poster for its planned "Democracy Under Attack"demonstration scheduled for Thursday, August 6.

The poster, released ahead of the protest, calls on supporters to assemble at 6 AM at the Supreme Court before marching to the Jubilee House. It carries the hashtags #DemocracyUnderAttack, #SaveGhanaNow and #SayNoToStateCapture.

Featuring a red background, raised clenched fists and the image of a gagged face, the artwork reflects the party's claim that democracy and free expression are under threat under President John Dramani Mahama's National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

The demonstration follows the Court of Appeal's decision to acquit and discharge former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, overturning her conviction and 10-year prison sentence imposed by the High Court.

The NPP has also cited what it describes as selective justice, interference with the judiciary, the suppression of free speech and repressive bail conditions imposed on opposition members as reasons for the protest.

Speaking after securing approval from the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, the party's National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, said demonstrators would march from the Supreme Court to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), proceed to the Jubilee House and present a petition to Parliament through a designated representative.

"We intend to stage this demonstration to press home our demand that democracy must be protected," he said.

He added that the protest is intended to draw attention to what the party sees as a worrying trend in the country's democratic governance.

"Today, democracy is under attack. We are witnessing the suppression of free speech and the criminalisation of free expression. Our democracy is dying, and this is not what President Mahama promised," Mr Boakye said.

In its campaign for the demonstration, the party has cited the imprisonment of its Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), the arrest and ongoing EOCO investigation of former IMCCoD Executive Secretary Dennis Miracles Aboagye, and the imprisonment of TikToker Camilla Alhassan as examples of what it alleges is the selective application of state power against perceived opponents of the government.
