'None injured or killed': Ablakwa holds emergency talks with Middle East envoys, assures safety of Ghanaians
Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has held an emergency virtual meeting with Ghana’s Ambassadors and Consuls General across the Middle East to review the evolving security situation in the region and strengthen consular measures to safeguard Ghanaian nationals.
A war has been started with the United States and Israel teaming up against Iran.
In a statement shared on Facebook on Tuesday evening, Mr Ablakwa disclosed that Heads of Mission from Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, and Turkey participated in the high-level engagement.
According to him, the meeting focused on assessing recent developments and coordinating additional interventions aimed at protecting Ghanaians living or travelling within the region.
“I am glad to report that so far no Ghanaian has been killed or injured,” the minister stated, offering reassurance to families back home.
He further revealed that Ghana’s diplomatic missions have compiled a comprehensive and reliable database of citizens in their respective jurisdictions. The database covers residents, short-term visitors and transit passengers to enable swift response actions if needed.
As part of contingency planning, all missions have been instructed to identify nationals who may wish to be evacuated for urgent government consideration.
Ablakwa added that officials are already assisting a significant number of Ghanaians to move through designated strategic border crossings to safer locations.
He emphasised that the government remains fully committed to the protection of its citizens abroad.
“The safety and welfare of all Ghanaians remains our utmost priority,” he affirmed, ending his message with the national pledge, “For God and Country.”
The latest engagement forms part of ongoing diplomatic and consular efforts by the Foreign Affairs Ministry to monitor tensions in the Middle East and ensure rapid support for Ghanaian communities in affected areas.
Since the US-Israel attack, Iran has launched a response targetting Israel and US assets in several Middle East nations.
