Obuasi SHTS headmaster hospitalised after students attack him over alleged buried baby

The Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (O'Sec Tech), Abdullai Zakaria, is receiving emergency medical treatment after he was violently attacked by students over allegations that he buried a newborn baby on the school's premises.

Mr Zakaria sustained serious head injuries during the assault, which reportedly involved the use of cutlasses.

He was initially taken to the AngloGold Ashanti Hospital in Obuasi before being referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi for specialised treatment.

Before official confirmation of the attack, a TikTok video sighted by ClassfMonline.com showed chaotic scenes at what appeared to be the headmaster's residence.

In the video, a group of young men who appeared to be students were seen verbally and physically assaulting the headmaster. The final scene showed what appeared to be injuries to his face, with blood visible on his hands and jalabiya.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi and Chairperson of the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), Faustilove Appiah Kannin, confirmed the incident in an interview with Kumasi FM's Elisha Adarkwah.

According to her, the headmaster suffered deep lacerations to the head during the attack.

Ms Appiah Kannin said MUSEC will hold an emergency meeting on Wednesday to discuss the incident while awaiting a comprehensive briefing on the circumstances that led to the violence.

She said the outcome of the meeting will determine whether the school should be temporarily closed to prevent further unrest.

"There was so much bruises on the headmaster. They used cutlasses to cut the headmaster's head. That's what we heard. I was about to go to the hospital when I was informed by the Obuasi Educational Director that he has been rushed to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital," she said.

Armed police officers have since been deployed to the campus to restore calm, secure the premises and prevent any escalation.

Police have also launched investigations into both the allegations that a newborn baby was buried on the school grounds and the assault on the headmaster.

The allegations surrounding the alleged burial have not been independently verified, and police are yet to announce any findings.
