One Ghanaian evacuee from South Africa dies on arrival at Accra Airport
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the death of one of the Ghanaian evacuees from South Africa upon arrival in Ghana, at the Emergency Medical Reception at the Accra International Airport at 6:55 pm on Friday, August 14, 2026.
In a press release, the ministry said it is undertaking the formalities of informing the family of the deceased, and has arranged for the deposit of the remains at the Police Hospital for autopsy.
The deceased was one of 50 Ghanaians who arrived at 5:50 pm on Friday, August 14, aboard an Air Tanzania flight from South Africa, as part of the Government's evacuation exercise.
According to reports from other passengers, the deceased's health condition began to deteriorate about 30 minutes before touchdown in Accra. A medical emergency team on standby at the airport attended to him upon arrival, but he was confirmed dead by doctors at 6:55 pm after all attempts to save him failed.
The ministry said it will provide an update on the development after formally engaging with the bereaved family.
