President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed the government's commitment to standing with the families of the eight people who lost their lives in the August 6, 2025 military helicopter crash, assuring them that the nation continues to share in their grief a year after the tragedy.

Speaking at a National Inter-Faith Memorial Service on Thursday to mark the first anniversary of the disaster, President Mahama said the memory of the victims remains deeply etched in the country's conscience and pledged that their sacrifice in service to Ghana would never be forgotten.

The commemorative event honoured the eight occupants of the Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter, which crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region while on an official assignment.

The President described the deceased as selfless public servants whose dedication to duty reflected their commitment to the nation, noting that the passage of time had done little to lessen the pain endured by their loved ones.

Addressing the bereaved families, he acknowledged that no memorial or expression of sympathy could erase the anguish caused by their loss, but assured them that they were not carrying their burden alone.

"To the bereaved families, permit me once again to convey the deepest condolences of the government and the people of Ghana. I know that no speech can erase your pain, no anniversary can fill that empty seat at your dining table, and no ceremonies can replace the voices that you long to hear.

"You have borne your grief with remarkable courage and dignity, and in doing so, you have reminded all of us that love does not end with death; it endures in memory, faith and the lives we choose to live thereafter.

"Please rest assured that the nation still mourns with you, and your loved ones did not die alone; they belong to all of Ghana, and we will continue to remember them."

The helicopter crash of August 6, 2025 claimed the lives of eight senior government officials, security personnel and members of the Ghana Armed Forces while they were on official duty. The incident remains one of the country's deadliest aviation tragedies in recent decades and continues to evoke national reflection on the risks undertaken by those who serve the state.
