PAC to summon officials over GH¢8.2 million ‘Toilet for All’ claims in 2019
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has announced plans to summon public officials Bright Oduro Kwarteng and Theophilus Okine over claims totaling GH¢8.2 million, reportedly intended for the construction of household toilet facilities under the 2019 “Toilet for All” project, which was executed by the former Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources.
Speaking on the matter, Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Minister Ahmed Ibrahim explained that attempts to verify the claims have been complicated by the fact that the officials involved indicated the supporting documents had already been forwarded to the National Archives.
Minister Ibrahim further revealed that while mobilisation funds had been disbursed, no actual work was carried out. He added that the previous government had taken steps to terminate the original contract and re-award it for execution.
Following this disclosure, Samuel Atta-Mills, the Ranking Member of the PAC, directed that the officials responsible be summoned to appear before the committee for questioning.
