The Ghana Police Service has launched emergency response and traffic control measures to restore normalcy following a fatal motor accident involving a fuel tanker on the Suhum–Nsawam highway.
In a press release issued by its Public Affairs Unit of the Eastern South Regional Command in Kibi on Saturday, February 14, 2026, the police said the crash occurred at Ntoaso on the Accra–Suhum dual carriageway when a fuel tanker transporting petrol from Tema to Kumasi lost control upon reaching a section of the road.
Preliminary investigations indicate the driver lost control of the vehicle, resulting in an explosion that caused fuel to splash onto vehicles behind it.
Police confirmed that six vehicles and four motorcycles were affected by the fire.

Authorities also reported that two unidentified male bodies were found at the scene, along with one unidentified body discovered in one of the burnt vehicles. Four persons who sustained injuries were rushed to nearby health facilities for treatment.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service in Suhum and Nsawam were deployed to extinguish the fire and secure the area.
The police said officers have begun visiting hospitals to help identify victims, while efforts are ongoing to clear damaged vehicles from the highway to ease traffic congestion.
Motorists using that stretch of the road have been advised to reduce speed and comply with police directives to ensure safety as recovery operations continue.
The statement was signed by DSP David Fianko-Okyere of the Public Affairs Unit, Eastern South Region.
