President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo, to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President Denis Sassou Nguesso, who has been elected for another five-year term.

The ceremony follows Nguesso’s victory in the 15 March election, where he secured 94.82% of the vote, extending his long-standing leadership of the oil-producing Central African nation.

Nguesso has governed the Republic of the Congo for nearly 42 years across different periods, and his latest win further strengthens his hold on power.

Mahama’s visit comes shortly after he launched Ghana’s Free Primary Healthcare Programme in Dodowa on Wednesday, marking a quick shift from domestic policy activity to regional diplomatic engagement.

He is expected to attend the inauguration on Thursday morning and return to Accra later the same day.

The presidency says his participation reflects Ghana’s continued diplomatic relations in Africa and efforts to maintain strong regional and bilateral ties.

It also aligns with the tradition of African leaders attending inauguration ceremonies across the continent as a sign of solidarity and cooperation.
