President John Dramani Mahama has directed that an inter-agency task force be formed to present a detailed roadmap on measures to prevent the trafficking of drugs through Ghana's borders, giving the task force two weeks to complete the assignment.

The directive followed a security meeting on recent narcotic trafficking cases linked to Ghana, according to a statement from the Presidency.

President Mahama chaired the meeting of security chiefs, at which he received a detailed briefing on investigations into the recent trafficking of drugs out of Ghana's ports.

"The President was informed that ten (10) individuals, including four officers of the Customs Division of the GRA are being held while investigations continue," the statement said.

It said the meeting reviewed the structure and security systems currently in place and recommended new actions, which informed the President's directive.
