Roads Minister angry over delayed Enchi–Elubo road project
Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has expressed frustration over the lack of progress on the Enchi–Elubo road project in the Western North Region after discovering that construction work has yet to begin months after the contract was awarded.
During an inspection tour of the project site, the minister criticised contractors, Top Engineering International Limited, for failing to move to site despite receiving mobilisation funds in December last year.
The 71-kilometre stretch serves as an important route for cocoa farmers, traders and commuters in the area but has remained in a deteriorated state for years, with motorists battling potholes, erosion and poor driving conditions.
Addressing officials during the visit, Mr Agbodza described the situation as unacceptable and warned that stronger action could have been taken if government had not already released mobilisation payments to the contractor.
He has since directed the company to immediately deploy equipment and workers to the site and commence construction works without further delay.
Residents in communities along the road, including Fawoman, are also appealing to government to ensure the project is completed, saying the poor nature of the road continues to disrupt transportation, commercial activities and access to essential services.
