A 19-year-old Senior High School (SHS) graduate, Florence Naa Kwarley, and two others have died at Mahean-Ablekuma following a suspected case of carbon monoxide poisoning.

The victims were found deceased on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in a room belonging to Jonas Ofosu Yeboah, a carpenter who was also among the dead.

The incident occurred during a power outage on Tuesday night.

According to reports, Mr Ofosu Yeboah had placed a generator in a locked corridor of the building while the three individuals were sleeping.

Family members discovered the bodies early Wednesday morning in a hardened state, indicating the deaths had occurred several hours prior.

Bernice Ofosu, sister of the deceased carpenter, told reporters that the generator had been positioned in the corridor to provide power during the blackout.

She expressed shock at the tragedy, noting that her brother was typically careful with the equipment.

The Amasaman Divisional Police Command has confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are currently underway to determine the exact circumstances of the deaths.

Authorities have frequently cautioned against operating generators in enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces due to the risk of lethal exhaust fumes.
