Roads Minister orders Highway Authority CEO to terminate contract for Bogoso–Prestea road due to non-performance

Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza

Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has directed the Ghana Highways Authority to begin processes to terminate the contract awarded to Black Oak Construction for the rehabilitation of the Bogoso–Prestea road.

The directive was issued to the Chief Executive Officer of the authority, Mallam Issah Ishak, during the minister’s inspection tour of ongoing Big Push projects in the Western Region.

According to officials, although the contract was awarded in 2025, the contractor reportedly moved to site only in March this year and carried out limited work before abandoning the project.

Reports indicate that after clearing portions of vegetation along the road corridor, the contractor claimed it had not received the road design needed to continue construction.

Further assessment by the Regional Highways Engineer reportedly showed that less than two percent of the project has been completed.

Mr Agbodza expressed dissatisfaction over the delay, stressing that government would not tolerate setbacks on such an important road project.

Although the Bogoso–Prestea road is not officially part of the government’s Big Push initiative, the Roads Minister said it remains a critical project that must be completed without unnecessary delays.

He has therefore instructed the Ghana Highways Authority to fast-track the contract termination process to allow a new contractor to resume work as soon as possible.

Attempts to obtain a response from Black Oak Construction were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
