Sam George briefs Civil Service Council delegation on SIM card registration exercise

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has received a delegation from the Ghana Civil Service Council on a familiarisation visit aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration and improving public sector service delivery.

The engagement, held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, formed part of a nationwide exercise by the Council to interact with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to better understand their operations, assess challenges, and align administrative support with national development priorities.

The delegation was led by the Chair of the Council, Dr. Lawrence Kannae, and the Head of Civil Service, Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh.

Other members included Dr. Evans A. Dzikum, Dr. Esther Ofei-Aboakye, Ambassador Kwame Asamoah Tenkorang, Justice Agnes Mercy A. Dordzie (Rtd), Mr. Charles Kwame Dondieu, Dr. Audrey Smock Amoah, and the Chief Director at the Office of the Head of Civil Service, Mr. Sylvanus Kofi Adzornu.

Welcoming the delegation, Mr. George stressed the importance of sustained collaboration between government policymakers and the Civil Service in promoting effective governance and efficient service delivery.

He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to leveraging digital technology and innovation to bridge service delivery gaps and accelerate Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.

The Minister highlighted key achievements and ongoing reforms within the Ministry aimed at improving operational efficiency and strengthening institutional performance.

He also outlined flagship programmes being implemented by the Ministry, including the One Million Coders Programme and Ghana’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, recently launched by President John Mahama.

According to him, the initiatives are central to building a digitally skilled and innovation-driven economy.

Mr. George further underscored the need for closer collaboration between the Ministry, the Office of the Head of Civil Service, and the Civil Service Council to drive sustainable digital transformation across the public sector.

He also briefed the delegation on the ongoing SIM card registration exercise, describing it as a critical initiative to enhance national security and strengthen the integrity of Ghana’s telecommunications ecosystem.

In his remarks, Dr. Kannae explained that the familiarisation visits are intended to promote professionalism, innovation, and collaboration across the Civil Service.

He noted that the engagements provide an opportunity for the Council to better understand the strategic priorities, operational realities, and challenges facing various MDAs, while also supporting performance-driven reforms within the public sector.

The visit also featured discussions on staff capacity development, operational challenges, and the importance of continuous innovation within the Civil Service, particularly in the era of rapid digital transformation.

 

As part of the engagement, directors of the Ministry made presentations to the delegation on the activities and ongoing initiatives of their respective directorates.
